Co is for collaborative.

I checked out the show that opened this friday at MG/GM (Museum Gallery/Gallery Museum) that was a collaborative group show. It was mostly members of the gallery itself and it was so nice to see a show at this gallery that wasn't so dense. There was finally some breathing room in the space and plenty of it to digest the art on the walls.
They finally took up the carpet for a nice installation in the main room of the gallery where there were painted walls and floors. Also, in the second room there was a great projection over ceramic piece by two grads from my program. It had the right amount of attention with the near empty room behind it. Although I would have loved a little time to see the ceramics without the projection over it at all. I think there would have been a nice contrast. Next to it were small and lovely ink drawings that also had a great presence in the room.
The interactive piece in the video installation space was a total blast. It had a robot who forgave your sins which you offered at his feet. It was perched in a chapel like disco with great lights and tunes around it. Numerous people who ventured in said, "if church was like this I might actually go." I can agree to that.

So I'm Gonna Try it Again!

Alright, its about that time to start a blog again. This will now not only let you guys know what shows I go to, but also what has been going on in my studio. This will let all of my friends who aren't in cincinnati with me right now keep up with my work and art adventures. Phew, this is going to be a challenge, but worth it I think.
So, for starters, here are the shows I have been working on at the DAAP Galleries.

and

inFormed is a great show for UC. As far as a mix of design and fine art the curating couldn't be better. These objects are all used to make other things including, Jigs, Molds, and other devices that are used in production. It is great to see the intrinsic beauty of these contraptions that usually never leave the shop or studio. It was good for my aesthetic soul to see them in a gallery setting.
I encourage everyone to go see it at the Meyers Gallery, and there were waffles at the opening, which is always a good idea.

As far as the Donald Deskey show goes at the Reed, its the perfect show for those who love to read text and see wall vinyls. Bring your magnifying glass for the photos as well. Show highlights among the gallery attendants: a video of a myriad of old men who will tell you all about Desky and a really old package of pink Charmin toilet paper.
